Lighthouses (Exhibition and Book Release)
Jón Sigurpálsson (1954 – 2023)
26.07 – 29.09 2024

The anniversary exhibition "Vitar" is in honor of the artist and former chairman of Edinborg Culture House, Jón Sigurpálsson, who would have turned seventy on August 2, 2024. He passed away after a brief illness in June 2023.

Jón's family has spent the past few months compiling his works that can be found in public spaces. The booklet is designed by Einar Viðar Guðmundsson Thoroddsen with texts by Halldór Björn Runólfsson, Björn Vignir Sigurpálsson, and Kristín Hagalín Ólafsdóttir.

The exhibition features Jón's works, handpicked by family and close friends, along with sketches of artwork that were both realized and unrealized.

///

Jón Sigurpálsson (1954 - 2023) was born in Reykjavík in 1954. After six years of art studies in the Netherlands, he settled, along with his wife Margrét Gunnarsdóttir, in Ísafjörður, where he lived and worked for the rest of his life. Jón exhibited both domestically and internationally for decades, and his numerous puplic artworks remain. The materials of his works are diverse and abstract. Over the years, Jón has contributed to the art community in various ways, such as running the Slunkaríki gallery in Ísafjörður and serving on the board of the Reykjavik Sculptors' Association.
