Reykhólahreppur is a municipality in the county Austur-Barðastrandasýsla deriving its name from the inhabited area Reykhólar and Reykhólasveit.

After recent merge of the municipalities in the county, the Reykhólasveit municipality stretches along the entire county.

Reykhólar and Reykhólasveit have frequent mentions in the Icelandic sagas such as in Grettir Saga. Reykhólasveit has been a home of many chiefs and pastors throughout the ages. During ancient time, the inhabitants grew corn among other things.

At Reykhólar is a seaweed factory that produces products from seaweed. The factory is a one of its kind in Iceland.

The Reykhólahreppur municipality provides a range of services for the inhabitants and visitors including boat exhibition, the swimming pool Grettislaug, perquisite exhibition and more.

A variety of accommodation and tourist services is available in the area.

The Reykhólahreppur municipality is only 200km away from Reykjavík by car. A unique experience orchestrated by nature, wildlife and human life is only few hours away from the charivari and noise of Iceland’s capital.
