Arnarfjordur, 5-10 kilometres wide and 30 kilometres long, is bordered by Slettanes to the north and Kopanes to the south. At its head, it forks at the Langanes promontory to form Suðurfirðir to the south and Borgarfjordur and Dynjandisvogur to the north.

The bay of Dynjandisvogur is fed by the waterfall Dynjandi (“Thunderer”), which plummets over the edge of the cliff. Measuring 30 meters wide at the top and 60 meters at the bottom, Dynjandi is about 100 meters high, the most impressive waterfall in the Westfjords and one of the most beautiful in all of Iceland. Below it, a series of waterfalls cascade.

Arnarfjordur is widely considered the most beautiful fjord in the Westfjords because of its diverse landscape, magnificent mountains and the natural masterpieces of Ketildalir and the Dynjandi waterfall.

Dynjandi is the biggest waterfall of the Westfjords and one of the most impressive ones in the whole of Iceland. It combines thunderous power and natural elegance. It is located in Arnarfjordur, not far from the Museum of Jon Sigurdsson at Hrafnseyri.

A campground with WC is located just by the waterfall.

The Ketildalir valleys are on the southern shore of the fjord Arnarfjordur. The best know of those valleys is probably Selardalur, a very popular destination because of the sculptures and buildings raised by the naivité artist Samuel Jonsson. Samuel is referred to as "the artist with the infantile heart". When he retired at the age of 72 in 1958, he pursued his dreams and became an artist. Mostly he created sculptures from concrete and carried the sand on his back from the shore to his farm Brautarholt. In his backyard, among other things, he has replicated the Lions Court in Alhambra. 

Selardalur also offers a wonderful panoramic view across Arnarfjordur, over to the 1000 metres high Kaldbakur Mountain, the highest mountain in the Westfjords. It is safe to say that many who visit the small village of Bildudalur, get butterflies in their stomach and even their toes when they visit the musical museum „Melodiur Minninganna“ (Melodies of Memories), founded by Mr. Jon Kr. Olafsson a former Icelandic pop-star from the 60´s and 70´s.. The Museum opened on 17th of June, 2000, on the Icelandic national day. The museum portrays a part of the musical history of Iceland .

The museum is dedicated to many of the wonderful artists and musicians that Mr. Olafsson knew and worked with throughout his career.

The museum is mostly based on a display of a record collection on the walls of the museum and other artifacts from this period, which gives the look and feel of the golden age of Icelandic early pop culture.

The swimming pool in Reykjarfjodur, a fjord that is going into the big Arnarfjodur, is a full size swimming pool heated by natural water that runs in the pool all year around.

A small shed is beside the pool that guests can use to change into the bathing gear.

Just above the swimming pool there is a hot natural pool.

Samúel Jónsson´s outstanding naive sculptures and buildings in Selárdalur valley in Arnarfjordur had been rapidly decaying when a society for it´s restoration was founded in 1998. This society is a non-profit organization and has had collaboration with the German sculptor Gerhard König and some others to work on the restoration during the past years in cooperation with the landowner, the ministry of agriculture. Groups of volunteers from Germany have been working together with Gerhard König during the past summers. In the summer of 2008 the plan is to pull down Samúel´s living house in order to build there a new house with a similar front that can serve as a guesthouse for artists and scholars. It´s planned to have the museum ready in 2009.
